Chronic health conditions: About 50% of children in foster care have chronic health conditions, such as asthma, anemia, visual loss, hearing loss, and neurological disorders. 

Medically fragile or complex: About 10% of children in foster care are medically fragile or complex, meaning they have serious health conditions that require ongoing care. 

Children in foster care account for 25% to 41% of mental health expenditures for children within the Medicaid program although they represent less than 3% of all enrollees.
